How much wind does it take to damage a roof in Georgetown County?

Less than most people think. Architectural shingles are rated to 110 mph or more, but only while fully sealed. A roof that has lost its seal can shed shingles in gusts of 45 to 60 mph.

My shingles look fine. Could there still be damage?

Very possibly. Wind breaks the seal strip and creases the mat without tearing the shingle off. It settles back flat and looks normal, but it no longer seals and rain works underneath it.

Why do the metal parts of my roof rust so fast?

Salt. It attacks fasteners and flashing long before shingles show wear. We use corrosion-resistant fasteners and replace compromised metal rather than reseal over it.

Will insurance cover wind damage?
