Is your roof still leaking after a roof repair? Are you sick and tired of failed roof repair attempts?
Dealing with a persistent roof leak is challenging. If the leak continues after a roof repair, it can really rob you of your peace of mind. Not to mention the cost associated with multiple roof repairs! Eventually, something’s gotta give.
However, if this is happening to you, you’re not alone. We at Linta Roofing have heard this story before. And while we have stopped unyielding roof leaks for homeowners in the past, it can be difficult to find the source of the leak. In this case, your roof may need more individualized attention than normal.
In this article we will discuss some of the common causes for persistent roof leaks and how we resolve pesky leaks for good! We hope this information will help you conquer your roof leak debacle!
Common Causes of Persistent Roof Leaks
Persistent roof leaks can have a sneaky source of entry into your home. It is not always what meets the eye, which is why it’s necessary to hire an experienced roofer to help identify your roof leak. So, what kind of issues could cause a roof leak that just won’t go away?
- Damaged or Missing Shingles: High winds, storms, or simple wear and tear can cause shingles to break or fall off, leaving your roof vulnerable to leaks.
- Faulty Flashing: Flashing is used to seal and protect joints and edges on your roof. If the flashing is damaged or improperly installed, water can seep through.
- Clogged Gutters: When gutters are clogged with debris, water can back up and seep under the roof, causing leaks.
- Roof Vent Issues: Cracked or improperly sealed roof vents can allow water to enter your home.
- Poor Installation: If your roof was not installed correctly, you might experience persistent leaks despite regular maintenance.
Although common, most homeowners don’t realize that overlooking these areas on their roof can cause a leak to go unresolved, even after a repair. Which is why it’s crucial to call a trusted local roofer to resolve your roof leak once and for all. Once the source of the leak has been identified, it’s time to take the step to resolve your roof leak once and for all.
What Can You Do to Stop a Roof Leak?
A persistent roof leak can leave you frustrated and without answers. You might have had several roofers inspect and attempt repairs, only for the leak to return, costing you time and money. The truth is that a roof leak can be difficult to identify. But not impossible. When we are trying to find where a roof leak is coming from we will conduct a water test.
What is a Water Test?
A water test involves two people working together to locate the source of a roof leak. Here’s how it’s done:
- Positioning: One person stands in the attic, while the other person gets on the roof.
- Spraying Water: The person on the roof uses a hose to spray water on the areas suspected of causing the leak.
- Identifying the Leak: The person in the attic observes where the water starts dripping, narrowing down the vulnerable area on the roof.
- Marking the Leak:
-
- Driving a Nail: The person in the attic can drive a nail through the roof deck at the leak location. This nail will be visible from the roof, making it easy to identify the precise spot.
- Tapping with a Hammer: Alternatively, the person in the attic can tap the area with a hammer. The person on the roof listens for the tapping sound to locate the source of the leak.
We suggest having a trusted roofer conduct a water test for you to prevent other areas of your roof from being damaged. And if the leak originated after a storm or fallen tree, the damaged area on your roof may need more attention than it’s been given during other repair attempts. Preventing Stubborn Roof Leaks in the Future
Stubborn roof leaks are extremely frustrating. And with every failed roof repair attempt, you find yourself bleeding money to get your roof fixed. It’s safe to say this is not an experience any homeowner wants to relive in the future.
However, you can breathe a sigh of relief, because now you know how to get to the root of your roof leak issue. To prevent this from happening again in the future, you’ll want to schedule regular maintenance. We usually suggest scheduling a maintenance appointment each year, so that minor issues can be fixed before they become larger problems. If we notice overhanging trees, gutter build-up, or problems with your roof shingles, we can help you resolve this problem quickly.
And if you have any additional questions about your roof, we’re happy to answer them!
