Calm Pets During a Roof Replacement

Are you worried about how to keep your cat calm or your dog comfortable during a noisy roof replacement?

Roof work is notoriously loud, which can create anxiety for pets. Whether it’s the sound of roofers walking above you, hammering, or nail guns, it can be pretty difficult to navigate for homeowners who want to keep their pets calm and happy during a roof replacement.

Because we’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many amazing Grand Strand pets during the roofing process, we want to provide you with options that will keep your beloved pet happy during a roof replacement! We’re big animal lovers at Linta Roofing but we are not qualified to say that we have the solution that will keep your pet comfortable during a roof replacement. We can only suggest actions we’ve seen homeowners take to help their pet stay calm while roof work is completed on their home.

In this article, we’ll provide tips and tricks we’ve seen homeowners take to keep pets happy and safe during roof replacements.

Let’s pounce on it!

Safely Block Off Doggy Doors During a Roof Replacement

shutterstock_2386975749Often, pets are very curious when new people show up at their home. Some pets get excited and some get a little bit nervous about strangers entering their space. Because of this we suggest blocking off areas where your pet can exit the home, like doggy doors. Not because we don’t want to see them, but because new people and sounds could encourage them to come outside unsupervised to see what we’re up to. This could be quite dangerous for them seeing as roofing projects are messy. And falling debris can pose a hazard to your pet's safety during a roof replacement.

Our greatest concern is the possibility of a nail or other debris falling to the ground and injuring your pet if they were to walk around in that area. Because of this, we always recommend your pet be on a leash and supervised for any outdoor activities. There are safe ways to take your pet for a nice walk, which can be beneficial for them!

Long Walks Can Benefit Your Pet During Roof Work

Just because you are having a roof replacement, it doesn’t mean your pets should suffer inside if they need to or want to go outside. We find that long walks can be very beneficial for your pet during a roof replacement when done safely. It can tire them out and calm them down while also giving them a break from the noise they hear while inside your home.

Our rolling magnets pick up any stray nails that may have landed in your yard. And while this is a common practice through various phases of your roofing project and during clean up, it is always a good idea to ask for their assistance in this before bringing your pet for a walk.

Because of all the excitement your pet may experience during your roof replacement, we also suggest keeping them on a leash any time you exit the home with them. Keeping your pet on a leash will prevent them from wandering towards the commotion and out of harm's way.

On the other hand, your pet may be scared by new people and loud noises, making them want to retreat until the job is done. And in this instance we suggest offering comfortable distractions to ease any anxiety they may feel.

Comfortable Distractions to Ease Pet Anxiety During Roof Work

Not only that, but your presence may also help your pet feel much more comfortable. It can be helpful to divert your pet’s attention away from the work being completed on your roof. But if you’re still concerned about whether or not this method will be successful, it may be beneficial for them to spend the day outside of the home.

Your Pet May Benefit from a Pet Sitter During a Roof Replacement

Depending on the pet, sometimes other methods fail to help them feel calm during a roof replacement. In this scenario we suggest calling a trusted friend or local pet sitter to watch your pet for the day. This keeps them away from loud noises that may scare them or make them anxious about what’s going on above their head. Additionally, your pet may enjoy spending the day with someone they know or a pet sitter they’ve met before! Ultimately giving them a fun day out while you take care of business. customer webpage

However, if you are weary about leaving your pet with someone else, you don’t have to be present during a roof replacement. Meaning you and your pet can go out and enjoy the day together! At Linta Roofing you receive the Elevated Roofing Experience. Which means you’ll have access to a custom customer webpage where you receive updates on your roofing project whether you are near or far! But, if you find that you may have to go to extreme measures to keep your pet calm during a roof replacement, you may want to contact your veterinarian.
